Food Security: Delta To Collaborate With Niger Delta River Basin Devt

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has disclosed the intention of his administration to collaborate with the Niger Delta River Basin Development, (NDRBD), for food sufficiency in the state.

Governor Oborevwori gave the assurance yesterday when the Chairman and members of the Niger Delta River Basin Development paid him courtesy visit in his office, government house, Asaba. The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, said his administration attached much importance to the provision of sufficient food in the state.

According to him,” I want to welcome you to government house, Asaba, I want to let you know that this administration attaches so much importance to the development of Delta State and Deltans themselves. So, I will warmly receive important visitors like you because you will add value to us and not to deflate us”.

“The Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority mission are in alignment with the vision of this administration. Your speech which centers on water, food security, and all these are the exact area my Administration have so much interest in”. “You mentioned that you are already in 18 local government areas out of the 25 local government areas of Delta State. I think that is huge, that is over two third in ratio. It is very impressive”.

“Delta State government will be hundred percent willing to partners with your organisation so that there will be food sufficiency in Delta State,” Gov. Oborevwori stated.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Board, Mr. Ebitimi Amgbare, in his speech, said the purpose of the visit was to seek collaboration with the state government in the area of food security as the board cannot do it alone.

According to him”, “We are here basically to seek collaboration with the state because we can’t do it alone. We are talking about the people and the people resides in the community and the community belong to the State Government”. “So, if we must make any meaningful impact, we must first of all come here to seek that collaboration. We need to up the game. We have Songai farm already in Delta State and we have other farms scattered all around eighteen Local Government Area  operating in Delta State . That is enough access for the State government to key into.  He noted that the Niger Delta River Basin Development also carry out campaign against open defecation, provision of portable water to rural communities as well as erosion management.
