The Secretary to the Government of Rivers State (SSG), Dr Tammy Danagogo has warned that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s calm and peaceful approach to governance should not be mistaken for weakness.
Danagogo made this assertion amid mounting criticism from political opponents, particularly the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The controversy arose after Danagogo signed a letter inviting lawmakers to a meeting with the Governor, a move that Wike dismissed as “useless.”
Addressing journalists during the commissioning of Okrika Grammar School in Okrika, Danagogo defended his action, asserting that it was well within his official duties as SSG. He noted that such correspondence is standard practice and that he had performed similar roles while serving as SSG during Wike’s tenure as Governor.
He stressed that his response was not politically motivated but aimed at clarifying misconceptions and setting the record straight.
Danagogo commended Governor Fubara for maintaining restraint despite political provocations, including the recent incident where the state assembly complex was locked, preventing him from presenting the budget. He remarked that some past governors in similar situations might have resorted to extreme measures, but Fubara prioritised order and stability.
He reassured Rivers residents that the state government remains committed to their welfare and economic progress. According to him, Governor Fubara’s measured approach stems from his determination to avoid policies that could adversely affect the people.
