Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, yesterday, inaugurated a multi-million naira borehole donated by the Special Assistant to Governor on Non-Indigene and Community Development, Sir Anthony Chukwu.
Inaugurating the project in Asaba, Sir Onyeme, who was represented by the Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Dr Barry Gbe commended Sir Chukwu for giving back to his constituency, especially at Christmas.
He said: “This is unique, you have proven that you identify with the needs of your people. I urge all political officeholders to borrow a leaf from you and give back to their constituents. The government cannot do it alone, so, if as individuals, groups or organizations we give back to society, we will witness more development in our state.
“I have learnt too that today, you are distributing rice to a selected group of people; this is also a good initiative as it is in line with the spirit of Christmas which is charity. In the spirit of Christmas, I urge you all to continue to remain peaceful and take care of your neighbours by giving to the needy.
“As a government, we shall continue to play our roles of delivering on our mandate through the MORE Agenda.”
In their goodwill messages, the representative of the Asagba of Asaba, Ogbueshi Peter Iweze and Chief Chinedu Obodo commended Sir Chukwu for the initiative. They pledged their support to the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.
Also, the wife of the Deputy Governor, Ezinne Catherine Onyeme charged the people to make good use of the water project and cultivate a good maintenance culture for it to serve the purpose it was built.
Earlier, Sir Chukwu, who executed the water project, said it was meant to serve the people to solve one of their greatest challenges which is potable water. Sir Chukwu described the project as a symbol of hope, progress, and a dream come true, to have played a part in bringing clean water to the people of the community.
