The leadership of Host Communities (Oil & Gas Producing Areas), Delta State Chapter has suspended a proposed protest.
This was disclosed in a letter addressed to Governor Sheriff Oborevori, signed by the State Chairman, Comrade Sunday Enujeke, the Secretary, Joseph Lamienghan and eight others.
“We recall a letter addressed to His Excellency, dated July 31, 2024, in which we issued a 21-day protest notice, arising from perceived neglect of HOSTCOMs over the years.
“Among our key concerns were requests for the provision of operational vehicles, training and capacity building, inclusion in management of the 13 per cent derivation as well as rehabilitation of HOSTCOM headquarters and ICT centre.
“However, after observing the state government’s commitment to dialogue, we have unanimously resolved to suspend the protest.
“While urging all our members to remain peaceful and law-abiding in the pursuit of HOSTCOM’s aspirations, we look forward to fruitful engagements bearing in mind the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to enhanced peace and security across the state.
