SOME concerned indigenes of Ogwashi-Uku community have raised alarm over the rate of kidnapping in the metropolis.
Those who spoke to our correspondent urged the security agents to up the ante and apprehend the hoodlums.
They also called on the leadership of Aniocha South Local Government Area to impose a dusk to dawn curfew as a way of stemming the tide of kidnapping.
Recall that no fewer than 10 persons have been abducted within a spate of two months in the metropolis.
While three persons we r e kidnapped somewhere around the Agidiehe farm road axis recently, two other youths were also picked up recently somewhere along the Edo-Otulu road axis, while two other youths were gunned down.
An information made available to our correspondent recently, revealed that some farmers had spotted a victim of kidnap who was blindfolded and was being dragged deep into the forest by his abductors who were armed.
But local security sources in Ogwashi-Uku have lamented the modus operandi of the hoodlums, alleging that there may be an insider from the community helping the criminals in what they described as unwholesome activities.
The President General of Ogwashi-Uku Development Association (ODA), Izu Osamor in a chat with our correspondent recently had attributed the spate of kidnapping to corruption in the governance of the society.
He had argued that the inability of government to be sensitive to the needs of the masses is a major reason, saying that unless the people in positions of authority begins to work for the enhancement of the lives of the masses, the country will continue to witness the crime.
An indigene of Ogwashi-Uku, Paul Nwafulu while lamenting the unending abduction of residents of Ogwashi-Uku, noted that nipping the crime on the bud is the best way to curb it.
“The information you will hear everywhere in the community is that these kidnappers hibernate among the cow rearers. And you will always find them along the high tension lines.
“When they abduct somebody, it is normally the high tension lines they move the person to. If the security agents want to bring the issue to an end, let them raid these herders rendezvous, you may be surprise to find sophisticated weapons with them”, he suggested.
But another resident of the metropolis, Martin Isitua on his part charged the leadership of the local government to impose dusk to dawn curfew.
“At least when that is done, anybody found moving about will have to explain to the security agents what he is looking for. And this has to be urgently done. After that, the security agents must be swift in tracking down the criminals and bring them.
