The Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government, Dr. Obi Kelvin Ezenyili, today, constituted a 12-man security taskforce committee, to tackle criminal activities and ensure safe environment for socio-economic development.
The inauguration was in fulfillment of one of the campaign promises made by the chairman, during his electioneering period, to combat crime within the local government area and reduce it to the barest minimal.
Addressing the security personnel and members of the constituted body, made up of the Army, police, civil defence and vigilante, Hon. Ezenyili spoke on the significance of tackling insecurity, saying it was a major concern to both the government and the masses.
He said: “I welcome you all to the inauguration ceremony of the Oshilimi South Local Government Council Security Taskforce for the year 2025. Today’s event is an auspicious occasion and a strategic step towards addressing security issues in Oshilimi South local government area.
“The primary business of every government is the maintenance of law and order and it is the premise on which meaningful development can be achieved in any town or city. The challenges of our security infrastructure has been a major concern for this administration right from previous tenure and since assumption of office it has even become more pressing with the increase of criminality which is undoubtedly connected with the influx of criminal from the neighboring states.
“Today, in fulfilling one of the promises made to the electorate we shall witness the inauguration of a twelve (12) man security task force to combat crime within the local government to a barest minimal and ensure that the community remains crime-free and conducive for economic activities, as promised during our campaign. The security of lives and property is a cardinal priority in our agenda as a government”, he said.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the taskforce and Police Area Commander, Asaba, ACP Alex Udeze commended the chairman for the initiative and assured that the committee would perform its duties to ensure security of lives and property.
Other security personnel, who also spoke, advised all inaugurated members to be steadfast and transparent in carrying out their activities, without fear or favour.
In a vote of thanks, the Leader of the Majority House, Hon. Michael Okonji applauded members of the house for their relentless efforts towards achieving these mandate.
The committee is made up of ACP Alex Udeze, as Chairman, Lt. Col. Leo Garrison of 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army Asaba as Co- chairman. Others are the Director-General, Ogbueshi Nnamdi Chukwuedo, Deputy Director-General (Rep. Okwe) Mr. Francis Nwanze, Rep. Achala Ibusa, Mr. Tony Olise, and Comr. Nnamdi Odiwe, as Coordinator.
Others are all the DPOs in Asaba, a representative of DSS, and civil defence corps.
