THE National Youth President of Ubulu-Uku kingdom, Comrade Maduabunachukwu Egboh has appealed to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene in the crisis rocking the Ubulu-Uku Youth Development Committee (UYDC) to avert further restiveness in the area.
Egboh made the appeal in a chat with newsmen in Ubulu-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.
He said he was making the appeal as an ambassador of peace and especially as development does not take place amidst rancour and disunity, saying that he and many others do not want more crises in the community.
Egboh said he was legally elected as president general of Ubulu-Uku Youths Development Committee (UYDC) on April 18, 2022 and that his tenure would expire April 18, 2026, wondering why his executive should be dissolved when his tenure has not expired.
He said the major cause of crisis between the council of chiefs and the members of UYDC, according to him was that the youth wings took the decision to protect the community against external aggression and internal insurrection and support democratic process in the community, adding that the council of chiefs want the youths to be answerable to them at all times, irrespective of the fact that the various bodies have their independent operational patterns according to their constitutions.
He stated emphatically that the constitution of Ubulu-Uku youths was clear on the management, administration and governance of the Ubulu-Uku youth body.
The President-General of Aniocha South Communities’ Youths, Comrade Chiedu Stanley who was contacted on the current youth’s crisis at Ubulu-Uku, said there is a distinct understanding between the administration of community youths executive and political youths.
Comrade Chiedu Stanley, who also doubles as the President General, Ogwashi-Uku Youths Development Association (OYDA) said the development at Ubulu-Uku came to the Local Government Executive of Aniocha South Communities Youths body as a threat to collective existence of community youth bodies in the local government area.
