Isoko North LGA: DTHA Dismisses Petition On Alleged Attempt To Pervert Due Process In Seniority Criteria

The Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), yesterday, dismissed a petition on the alleged attempt to pervert due process of established procedure and seniority criteria in the appointment of the next Head of Personnel Management (HPM) from Isoko North extraction under the Unified Local Government Service.

This came following a report by the Assembly House Committee on Public Petitions presented by its Vice Chairman, Hon. Oloye Pereotu; on the petition.

The committee, in a 15-page report on the investigative hearing and findings from the petitioner, Mrs Ugboka Ejiro and from the respondents; the Delta State Local Government Service Commission and Mr Unuvie Assembly as presented by Hon. Oloye, recommended that the house discountenance the petition for lack of merit.

The committee further urged the house to affirm the second respondent, Mr Unuvie Assembly as the most senior administrative officer from Isoko North local government who is eligible for appointment as Head of Personnel Management, calling on the house to direct the Delta State Local Government Service Commission not to subject the petitioner to any form of victimization.  Other lawmakers, including the Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi and the member representing Ndokwa West, Hon. Charles Emetulu in their submissions, called for the adoption of the committee’s recommendations.

The lawmakers unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendation following a voice vote called by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor as the petition was for lack of merit. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor urged the Acting Clerk, Mr Otto Aghoghophia to communicate the resolution of the house to affected parties.

Also at yesterday’s plenary, the House considered the first reading of a bill on the Delta State recognition of Legal Rights of River Ethiope presented by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowovwo.

The bill being sponsored by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo also seeks, to codify the Delta State Recognition of River Ethiope fundamental rights and legal standing as well as the Protection and enhancement of the River Ethiope in the State.
