IYC Commends Oborevwori Over Ohoro-Bomadi Road Contract Award

THE Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, has expressed commendation for Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, following his recent decision to award the contract for the construction of the Ohoro-Bomadi road.

The road, which serves as a crucial link between Ijaw communities in Patani, Bomadi, and Burutu Local Government Areas, had been previously described as a “death trap” by the IYC. Recall that the youth body had on June 16, 2024, called on the Delta State Government for an urgent rehabilitation of the Ohoro-Bomadi road. The road’s deplorable condition had not only endangered lives but also hampered economic activities in the region.

In a statement signed by the trio of Nicholas Igarama – Chairman, Ebi Joshua OlowolayemoEsq. – Secretary and Tare Magbei – Information Officer, the IYC Western Zone praised Governor Oborevwori for his prompt response to their calls, highlighting the Governor’s commitment to addressing the needs of the people, particularly those in the riverine communities.

The Council urged the Governor to ensure that the contract is awarded to a reliable and competent construction firm capable of delivering a durable and high-quality road.

Parts of the statement read; “The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, expresses its profound appreciation to His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for the recent awarding of the contract for the construction of the Ohoro-Bomadi road.

“This vital project, which has long been a significant concern for our communities, will immensely benefit the Ijaw people by improving connectivity and boosting economic activities in Patani, Bomadi, Burutu Local Government Areas AND Delta State in general”
