Keep To Professional Ethics, Ekedayen Urges Female Accountants

By Ese Obote-Ogwu

THE incoming Executive of the Society of Women Accountants in Nigeria (SWAN), has been urged to distinguish themselves and keep legacies of the profession alive. The Delta State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, stated this when he hosted the national chairperson of SWAN and the incoming Executive Committee of SWAN, Asaba chapter, in his office at Asaba.

According to Ekedayen, “I believe your choice was not an accident, you must have proven yourself.  When inaugurated, hit the ground running and ensure you create positive memories at the end of your tenure”

“In those days, membership of ICAN was not common, but I have been told that there are over 200 chartered accountants in the civil service and nothing better explains the depth and spread of membership over the MDAs.”

According to him “the number of women has increased over the years, we have every course to be proud as a people and as a state. We will encourage more females to take the exams and be qualified as well.”

The commissioner lauded the state Accountant-General, Mrs. Joy Enwa, the state Auditor-General, Mrs. Veronica Okonji and members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), for their warm reception on his assumption as the commissioner for Economic Planning and reiterated his commitment to ICAN and wished them success at the investiture ceremony.

In her remarks, the National Chairperson of SWAN, Mrs. Hilda Ozoh, expressed delight at the warm reception given to them by the commissioner even with the short notice.

She stated that the association was created about 48 years ago by their grand patrons, and the precedent set by them must be sustained.

According to her, “the Lagos State government commended us for being the engine room of the government, also, we function and deliver as at when due and we want to replicate that in Delta State.”

“We are grateful for all you have done for the institute and we are here to formally invite you to the investiture ceremony of Mrs. Evelyn Odeh as the second chairperson of SWAN, Asaba chapter.
