Much has been said or written on the issue of lesbianism especially in female football. However, it seems, the trend instead of coming down has continued to increase.
More worrisome is the example being laid by those who should have been in the fore front of campaigning against it. Instead, some high profile footballers are now promoting it.
The question people are asking is why would female footballers go into same sex relationship. What is so special about it that the trend is spreading like wild fire including Nigerian Female clubs.
A female footballer based in Asaba once confessed to me that she was dropped from the National team because she refused to join the train of those who practice lesbianism.
However, the whole world was shocked last week when six-time footballer of the year, Brazilian Soccer legend Marta Vieira da Silva, considered to be the greatest women’s soccer player of all time engaged her lesbian female partner in an elaborate ceremony.
Sources confirmed that Marta and Carrie Lawrence have been dating for over two years and have been teammates since 2020. Marta, it was reported had previously gotten engaged to another former teammate, Toni Pressley in 2022 but the two broke up.
The Brazilian legend is now set to get married to her lesbian friend, Carrie, who is a teammate of hers at NWSL side, Orlando Pride.
For a player who should be seen as a role model going into such thing calls for concern as it could discourage parents from allowing their daughters to go into female football.

Thus, the tendency and orientation of a human female to be emotionally and usually sexually attracted to other females, no doubt should not only be condemned but be banned by FIFA just the way they prohibit the use of drugs.
The implication of lesbianism is that women who tend to have sex with another woman is liable to be at a higher risk of depression and anxiety than other women. According to findings, this might be due to discrimination, rejection by loved ones, weak social connections, abuse or violence.
No wonder, when you expect some to perform, they end up disappointing you and you could hear people in the stands attributing it to lesbianism.

Medical experts revealed that those who practiced same sex serial practice are exposed to having higher rates of HIV/ AIDS, substance abuse, depression, hepatitis, sexually transmitted illnesses, gonorrhoea, syphilis and chlamydia,.

It has often been revealed that women who have sex with women had higher rates of bacterial vaginas and richest concentration of risk factors for breast cancer especially gynaecologic cancers.
To stop lesbianism in Female Football particularly Nigerian Clubs, the Nigeria Football Federation should come up with a serious campaign. Players should be made to join anti lesbian clubs. Female footballers should be bold enough to denounce lesbianism and there should be no discrimination.
To lend credence to this, female footballers should examine the quality of their life style and be made to know the health skills. While it is possible to become a lesbian under somebody influence, it is also possible to use some influential players to project the campaign against lesbianism. Teams should be made to wear T-Shirts with anti-lesbian inscriptions an d banners denouncing lesbianism should be displayed in our stadiums.
