The National Youth Games is the brain child of Goodluck Jonathan administration established through the National Sports Commission for athletes below fifteen years to show case their skills and talents.Perhaps, with the failure of the country both at the Olympics in Paris and the junior Olympics in Peru, this is a major event to discover those  who would be nurtured for future tournaments.

The truth is that the build up to Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane in 2031 starts from Asaba, where fresh talents should be fished out to replace the ageing ones.

The maiden edition took place in Abuja in 2013 with an attendance of about 4000 athletes drawn from different states. The main objective of the festival is to harness talents amongst the youths and also ensure the unity and togetherness among different states.

Thus, the one starting on Monday should adhere strictly to the aims and objectives as laid down in the rule book.

The Holy Bible says that we should train up a child in the way he should go and even when he is old, he will not depart from it.

The event of 2013 which served as an eye opener in Abuja from December 5th to 23th was won by Cross River State with Akwa Ibom and Delta in second and third positions respectively.

In 2016, the second edition was hosted in Ilorin, Kwara State from September 21st to 30th. Kwara also hosted it in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.

It is pertinent to state here that Team Delta won it back to back after the maiden edition till 2021. The one of 2017 was won by Delta with 22 Gold, 16 Silver and 23 Bronze.
