THE Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Innocent Esewezie has issued a stern warning to native doctors residing in the bushes of various communities, as he called on them to leave the bushes or face stiff sanctions.
During a meeting held at the Ogwa Umualofe, the Council Chairman reflected on the need to profile, register and know all legally registered native doctors in Oshimili North. He pointed out that the pilot scheme will start from Ibusa and later extended to all the communities in the local government.
Hon. Esewezie said that the local government authority would work with the Oshimili North Council of Traditional rulers in order to curb the excesses of some native doctors.
Similarly, Obi Prof. Louis Nwoboshi, the Obuzor of Ibusa, has also issued a directive to the herbalists to be mindful of their activities in the community rivers. He gave a seven day ultimatum to the native doctors in the community to remove every items or sacrifice placed in the rivers.
In the same vein, the spiritual head of the town, Ikwele Ibusa reinforced the opinion of the royal father by noting that sacrilegious activities in the name of sacrifices would no longer be tolerated.
Others who spoke at the meeting welcomed the idea, adding that the native doctors and those called Ezenwayi are sometimes accused of aiding and abetting criminals. They called for a taskforce to be set up to help checkmate the indecent acts. It can be recall that at a recent Oshimili security meeting, intelligence report indicated that some native doctors have been fingered in aiding and protecting the unlawful activities of some criminals in the local government area, which prompted the Chairman moving against those involved in illicit practices that have led to the desecration of streams, rivers and public spaces over the years.
