LG Distributes Palliatives To Vulnerable Persons

To alleviate the economic strain resulting from the removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government, the Udu Local Government has commenced the distribution of palliatives to vulnerable persons in the community.

This marks the third round of palliative distribution initiated by the Federal Government, in conjunction with the Delta State Government, to cushion the effects of the hardship caused by the subsidy removal.

The palliative, comprising 40 bags of 25kg rice and 5 bags of 25kg Garri, distributed to each ward, was handed over to the State Coordinator, Dr. Johnson Erhuvwujefe by the Secretary to the Governor, Dr Kingsley Emu. The items were subsequently distributed to the 20 District wards in the Udu Local Government Area.

Erhuvwujefe emphasized the importance of integrity among ward representatives during the distribution process, highlighting the need for fairness and justice. He reiterated that the program was initiated by the government to cushion the effect of the economic hardship among the vulnerable in the area and not for everyone.

The State Coordinator advised the committee members and the ward coordinators to ensure that the palliative gets to the poorest and less privileged. He warned that the items should not be used as gifts or giveaways.

Erhuvwujefe thanked the Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, for the opportunity to serve in this capacity. He expressed hope that this gesture would make a modest, yet meaningful impact in ensuring sustenance for the most disadvantaged in the Udu community.
