THE Chairman, Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Hon. Joseph Otirhue has assured the Public Procurement Commission (PPC) that the service was ready to collaborate with them to achieve its aims and set goals.
The Chairman gave this assurance when the Director-General of the PPC, Mr Edwin Abraka led the management team of the commission on a courtesy call to his office in Asaba.
While addressing the group, Otirhue expressed the LGSC’s preparedness to key into the policies, procedures and guidelines stipulated by law in the procurement of goods, services and projects at the local government level.
He said that the commission has organised series of training on procurement and due process for the various cadres of the Unified Local Government Service in order to create awareness on how to go about procurement matters to avoid contravening the stipulated laws.
Otirhue affirmed that the visit was one of its kind as the proceedings were very informative and educative, adding that the visit by the Public Procurement Commission was the first of its kind since his assumption of office as the visit was very apt and will encourage the Commission to put more effort in training her staff on matters of procurement and due process.
Speaking earlier, the Director-General, Delta State Public Procurement Commission, mR. Edwin Abraka, said they embarked on the visit in order to sensitize the Local Government Service Commission being the regulatory agency of the 25 local government areas on the Procurement law as enacted by the state in the year 2020.
He said the Delta State Government law has mandated the Public Procurement Commission to harmonise all existing government policies and practices in respect to public procurement in the state, so as to ensure probity, accountability and transparency in all government procurement processes.
