Tragedy struck in Benin City, Edo State, when a 35-year-old man, Theophilus Osazuwa, who is currently in police net allegedly killed his four-year-old son on Christmas Eve in Benin City, Edo State of Nigeria.
The tragic incident occurred about 12:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve, in Ogbeson Quarters, off Benin-Agbor Road, in the state capital.
According to police reports, Osazuwa, who is known to have a history of substance abuse, had gone out to consume illicit drugs earlier in the day and when he returned home, he went into a violent rage, screaming “Holy Ghost fire” before grabbing his son, Testimony Osazuwa, slamming him against a wall.
The child was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police spokesperson in Edo, SP Moses Joel Yamu confirmed the arrest, stating that initial investigations suggested that the suspect was under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the young man who is known for the consumption of illicit (colos, ice etc) substances acted under the influence of same”, SP Moses Yamu said in a statement released on Christmas Day.
