AHEAD of the Saturday, July 13, 2024 local Government election, it was celebration galore for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area as over 1000 persons from the All Progressives Congress (APC) defected to the PDP.
The defectors, who came mostly from the main opposition party, the APC, Labour Party and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to joined forces with the PDP was witnessed by PDP leaders and elders in Ughelli North local government area during the party campaign rally recently.
Addressing the decampees and the returnees, the PDP Chairman in Ughelli North local government area, Pastor Kesiena Nomouja assured them that they will not be left out in the scheme of things as they will be carried along.
He advised them to remain committed and work for the progress of the party as the present governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has the heart of gold to build Delta State through his M.O.R.E Agenda.
Also speaking at the rally, the Commissioner for Directorate of Transport, Hon. Onoriode Agofure described the mass defection of persons from the APC to the PDP as unprecedented, which has never happen in the history of the party in Agbarho
He noted that irrespective of political affiliations, Agbarho is one, adding that for the people to take decision to join forces with the PDP was a right step in the right direction, stressing that this will bring more developmental projects to Agbarho.
In a chat with newsmen, a former IPMAN Chairman, Chief Akpos Edafevwotu who also doubles as a chieftain of the PDP, described the mass defection from the APC and the PDP returnees as a welcome development.
He said, as a grassroots politician, along with other PDP leaders, they will ensure that the defectors and the returnees remained in PDP.
On the performance of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, the PDP chieftain said the governor had performed beyond expectation within one year in Office.
On his part, one of the Coordinator of the campaign rally, Bar. George Ushered who is a Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor said that they never envisaged that the turn out and large numbers of defectors from opposition parties.
Also speaking to newsmen, a former chairmanship aspirant under the platform of the PDP in Ughelli North, Olorogun Oghenebrume Segun Obada promised to contribute to taking the PDP to a greater height.
