Nationwide Protest Unnecessary —Okpebholo

THE governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 21 election in Edo State, Sen Monday Okpebholo, has said he “does not talk too much to avoid telling the electorate lies.”

Okpebholo, also described as unnecessary, the proposed 10-day nationwide protest from tomorrow, August 1 2024, saying that President Bola Tinubu should be adequately supported by all stakeholders.

He urged Nigerians, especially the youths, not to allow themselves to be used by enemies of democracy to destroy national assets, development projects, and property of individuals, organisations and government, which he said might be worse than the October 2020 #EndSARS protest, which led to the death of many innocent persons, and destruction of valuable property across Nigeria.

The governorship candidate of APC in Edo reiterated that Nigerians had the right to protest, but cautioned it should be done in a most civilized manner.

He spoke during an interactive session with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel, at the new state secretariat of the main opposition party (APC) on Ikpokpan Road, Government Reservation Area (GRA), Benin, the Edo state capital.

Edo APC’s governorship candidate promised that if elected, he would end insecurity, embark on commensurate development projects, provide quality education, and hold regular town hall meetings in Edo.

He said “I will respect the traditional institution in Edo State, and continue to hold in high esteem, the Oba of Benin, OmoN’ObaN’EdoUkuAkpolokpolo, ObaEwuare II.

“I have the capacity and experience to govern Edo State, from November 12, 2024, by God’s grace and the massive support of the Edo electorate. I will not disappoint Edo residents, but perform excellently, to put my detractors to shame. I am embarking on many infrastructural projects in Edo Central Senatorial District, and empowering numerous Edo residents. I will do more if elected governor of Edo State’’ he said.

Okpebholo promised to tackle insecurity headlong when elected, adding that most local and foreign investors would not come to Edo state, because of insecurity, with many qualified youths currently jobless.
