NIGERIAN Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has commenced an investigation into the cause of late arrivals and delayed departures of British Airways flights to and from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for three days.
Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr Michael Achimugu, said the investigation would include intensified inspections under the NCAA/ICAO FASAP, Foreign Aircraft Safety Assessment Programme.
Achimugu, in the statement, also said the NCAA would do all within its powers to ensure the rights of travellers were protected. The statement reads: “The attention of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has been drawn to late arrivals and subsequent delayed departures of British Airways flights to and from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for about three consecutive days starting from August 27 2024, which has resulted in many inconveniences to the travelling public.
“The NCAA has contacted BA and initiated an investigation into these frequent delays to establish the root cause of these delays and take appropriate action to ensure passenger rights are protected and also prevent recurrence. The investigation will include intensified inspections under the NCAA/ICAO FASAP of all aircraft on the Nigerian route for regulatory compliance. “The travelling public should rest assured that the NCAA will do all within its powers to ensure their rights are protected in support of the HMA’S policy to eliminate unnecessary flight delays.”
