THE newly posted Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Betty Nekpen Isokpan says that her mission in the State is to drastically reduce crime and acts of criminalities, making the State safe for all.
The Commissioner staated this during a courtesy visit to the leadership and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council at the State Secretariat in Benin City.
She emphasized that the command under her leadership will ensure a fair and firm security atmosphere that will support business growth and development as well as be a centre of attraction for visitors.
CP Isokpan sued for the cooperation and support of journalists and residents in the State to enable her deliver on her charge of making the State safe for all.
She advised landlords in the state to be careful not to give out their houses to criminals to rent, especially kidnappers, in order not to lose such houses through demolition in line with the State’s anti-kidnapping law in the State.
She also said that policing is a collective responsibility involving everyone in the society, as information from the public to police is very critical in combating crime. “Let everyone be involved. If you decide to hid a criminal, you may be the next victim.
She promised to work with Nigeria Union of Journalists in order to succeed in her assignment.
On his part, the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe assured the Police Commissioner of the union’s support in the area of coverage of her command’s activities in the state.
He also appealed to the commissioner to ensure journalists are allowed to carry out their jobs without being obstructed by her officers.
