While the fate of 15 young men charged by the Delta State Police Command over their alleged homosexuality, hang in the balance at the court, the Delta State police in its fight to combat homosexual activities have arrested several young men believe to be homosexuals and also declared one Bright Chidozie Ehegihu wanted for his aledged role in homosexual activities.
The police who is said to be on the trail of other gay friends of Bright has vowed to crack down on all gay men in Asaba, Delta State and bring them to face the law.
It was revealed that, one of the suspects, Odiri Ikenna Christian, (a.k.a Scott) upon interrogation, confessed how he has in years back indulged in same sex activities with the said Bright Chidozie Ehegihu believed to be a homonsexual kingpin in his community among others.
The police is said to have through the suspect confession increased its manhunt for the homosexual kingpin, Bright Chidozie Ehegihu after months of disappearance from Delta State to Enugu for fear of being bullied, assaulted, apprehended and handed over to the police by youths from the community.
It said that the Police got the information of the homosexual practices from some community youths who clamped down on the suspect, Ikenna and some other young men for indulging in the act of homosexuality.
Bright Chidozie Ehegihu, who is said to hail from Idem Ogwa in Mbaitolu Local Government Area, Imo State, escaped from his hideout in Enugu before the arrival of the police in April 2023 after being confessed by Ikenna of being his fience and having same sex activities with since 2013.
According to Ikenna’s also known as Scott confession to the police, Bright has been his same sex partner right from Owerri in 2013 and their sexual activities continued even when he (Ikenna) had to relocate to Delta State.
He noted that Bright was always paying him visit in Delta even from his Ekiti base when he was undergoing his National Youth Services Core, (NYSC) in 2022 and finally joined him in Delta in January 2023 after his NYSC.
However, a source from his community in Owerri who spoke to our correspondence on condition of anonymity said, Bright’s homosexual activities started during his tender age.
According to the source, Bright was in 1997 initiated into homosexualism at the age of 7 by one of their family house help called Chijioke. Unknown to Bright’s parents this gay activity continued till when Bright was 12 years old and the house help Chijioke was driven away by Bright’s parents for stealing.
The sources narrated that Bright’s parents and family members became aware of his homosexual activities in 2006 during his junior secondary school class when he began to experience bully and criticism by other school mates over his homosexual involvement with one Okechukwu Chukwunonso and the head teacher had to surmon his parents and inform them of his gay nature.
However, report from a reliable source, states that Bright now lives in fear of being arrested by the Nigerian police and he is currently into hiding.
It was also reported that the Delta State command of the police force in charge of the issue has declared a wide search for the arrest and prosecution of the homosexual kingpin Bright Chidozie Ehegihu.
It would be recall that, Nigeria has a legislation that outlaws homosexuality and imposes prison terms of up to 14 years for people convicted under the act prohibiting same sex marriage and activities.
The law in Nigeria makes it illegal for gay people to even hold a meeting or something of such. The Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act also criminalises homosexual clubs, associations and organizations, with penalties of up to 14 years in jail.
Beyond that, the Act provides that anybody found supporting/promoting acts of gay or lesbianism in clubs or elsewhere is punishable with 10 years imprisonment.
