THE Delta State Government has assured residents of its readiness to tackle any eventuality arising from the heavy rainfall forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
This assurance was given by Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Hon. Ejiro Etacherure, while reacting to NiMet’s latest weather bulletin predicting moderate to heavy rainfall in Delta and five other states.
Hon. Etacherure emphasised that the state is not taking the forecast lightly, adding that proactive measures are being taken to mitigate the impact of any flash floods that may occur during the predicted period, April 9–11, 2025.
Etacherure praised the leadership style of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, describing him as a committed and humble leader who is always ready to act in the interest of the people.
“We have a workaholic governor in this state, who is ever ready to protect Deltans. He acknowledged that while flash floods are sometimes unavoidable due to their unpredictable nature, the state has taken proactive steps to mitigate their impact, especially in light of the recent NiMetwarning.
“Flash floods are natural disasters and sometimes unpredictable,” he said. “But like NiMet predicted, should it happen, we are always very ready for that.”
Referencing the recent incident in Agbor, Etacherure expressed concern over the attitude of some residents towards environmental maintenance, particularly with clearing of drainages.
