THE National Orientation Agency (NOA) has commenced a sensitization campaign in Uvwie on new birth registration for children between the age of 0-5 years to obtain both National Population Commission (NPC) Birth Certificate and National Identity Number (NIN) on one document.
The sensitization featured a door-to-door campaign by the national orientation officials.
Mrs. Binta Ukwade, who led the campaign, said that the National Orientation Agency (NOA) of Nigeria was promoting the new birth certificate with the National Identification Number (NIN) to streamline identity verification and enhance national data accuracy.
“By linking birth certificates to the NIN, Nigeria aims to create a unified identification system that integrates personal records from birth, which helps prevent identity theft, improve public service delivery, and increase access to benefits and social services”, she said.
She went on to state that the initiative also aligned with the broader goal of updating Nigeria’s civil registration and vital statistics to make it easier for citizens to obtain and use official documentation for various purposes which include schooling, healthcare and employment.
Mrs. Ukwade called on all young mothers to look out for it and ask that the new certificate with NIN be given to their children at the national population designated centers.
A young mother, Mrs. Omonigho, while appreciat ing the government for the development, noted that it would go a long way in aiding operations of many security and other governmental agencies in Nigeria, and would also help in tracing, identifying and apprehending culprits of criminal activities.
