Nwoko Bags Delta NUJ’s ‘Most Outstanding Legislator’ Award

BY CHINELO ODUJE

THE Senator representing Delta North, Senator Ned Nwoko, has been honoured with the “Most Outstanding Legislator in Nigeria 2024” award.

The award was presented to him by the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Speaking during the ceremony, the Chairman of NUJ, C Delta State Council, Comrade Churchill Oyove, and Secretary, Comrade Victor Sorokwu, revealed that the union recognized Nwoko’s contributions to governance and development. Reflecting on the honour, Senator Nwoko expressed gratitude and pledged to continue advocating for good governance.

He said, “Being chosen as the ‘Most Outstanding Legislator of the Year’ among many others is an encouragement for me to do more. This recognition is a testament to my commitment to serving the people with humanity and ensuring accountability in governance.”

Senator Nwoko reiterated his unwavering commitment to the creation of Anioma State, a long-standing aspiration of the people in Delta State.

He explained that the new state would ensure balanced development and greater opportunities for the people of Delta.

“The creation of Anioma State is not about political parties; it’s about the freedom and development of our people,” Nwoko said. He envisions Delta being divided into two states: Anioma and another state called “New Delta,” with Warri as its capital.

As a member of the Senate’s Constitution Amendment Committee, Nwoko revealed that Anioma State has progressed significantly in the legislative process.

He stated, “Anioma is the only state that has made it through the first and second readings in the Senate. By the end of February or early March 2025, there will be a public hearing on the bill before it proceeds to the third reading and then to the President for approval.”

Nwoko emphasized his dedication to this cause, saying, “As long as I remain a senator and member of the Constitution Amendment Committee, I will ensure Anioma State becomes a reality.”
