THE Board Chairman of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC), Dr. Austin Obidi has called on affluent individuals in Ibusa community to rally behind Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda by sponsoring vulnerable residents into the state’s health insurance scheme.
Dr. Obidi made the call during the official flag-off ceremony for the registration of 100 indigent persons under the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative (IEAI), a program aimed at providing free health coverage for the less privileged. The event, which took place in Ibusa Town, Oshimili North Local Government Area, was sponsored by philanthropist Deacon Mike Mornu.
He emphasized that access to affordable and quality healthcare is a fundamental right, not a privilege, as he praised Deacon Mornu’s generosity as a model for others to emulate.
“This initiative not only aligns with the Governor’s MORE agenda, which stands for Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security, but also speaks to our shared responsibility to uplift one another,” Dr. Obidi said.
According to him, the IEAI is one of the commission’s key strategies for achieving universal health coverage in Delta State. Through the program, well-meaning individuals, corporate bodies, and groups can adopt and sponsor vulnerable Deltans who would otherwise be unable to afford health insurance. Dr. Obidi urged members of the Ibusa community and beyond to follow the example set by Deacon Mornu, saying that collective action is crucial to building a healthier, more equitable society.
Speaking at the event, the sponsor, Deacon Mike Mornu, commended the state government for the initiative, noting its continued commitment to strengthening the health system to ensure all Deltans have access to quality healthcare.
He also praised the commission, describing its dedication to the healthcare sector as a crucial step toward ensuring that every Deltan receives effective and reliable health services.
Similarly, the Woman Leader of the community, Mrs. Rose Mornu, praised the sponsor for his generous support of the people, expressing confidence that God will continue to bless and provide for him.
