The Delta State Commissioner for Works, Rural Roads, and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu has reiterated that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remained a respected PDP leader and has no intention of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Aniagwu characterised Oborevwori as the “Poster Governor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” dismissing claims of a potential defection as unfounded speculation propagated by detractors.
He emphasised that the governor had no plans to oppose President Bola Tinubu, asserting that those circulating rumours about Oborevwori’s possible switch to the APC were simply expressing their hopes for an unlikely political shift.
“Oborevwori is a proud member of the PDP and a respected leader within the party at both state and national levels. He has proven himself as a competent governor and a true representative of the PDP,” Aniagwu said.
He urged those anticipating a change in allegiance to understand that Oborevwori is committed to the PDP.
According to him, “His support for President Tinubu is a patriotic effort to promote good governance, not an indication of seeking a new political platform. Oborevwori remains firmly rooted in the PDP and embodies the party’s principle.”
Addressing speculation regarding the PDP’s future, Aniagwu described such predictions as “the height of a malaria-induced dream.” He acknowledged that while internal disagreements exist within the party, they are a natural outcome for an organisation that has enjoyed significant success during its 16 years in power.
“As in medicine, a thorough diagnosis is crucial in politics. If we could establish a political laboratory to assess the political landscape in Delta, it would reveal that the PDP is deeply entrenched in our communities and continues to thrive,” the Commissioner remarked.
