THE Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting community-based media during the Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN) Delta State Council 2024 Annual Publishers Lecture and Award held at Vienna Int’l Hotel Asaba.
Governor Oborevwori, ably represented at the occasion by the Senior Political Adviser to the Governor, Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, conveyed his sincere appreciation for the critical role that Community Newspapers play in fostering grassroots development and ensuring effective communication between the government and the people.
The Governor pledged to continue to work closely with ACNPN, emphasizing that his administration is committed to strengthening the partnership with Community-based media outfits.
The Governor, who highlighted the importance of Community media as a vital tool for nation building, noted that it offers a platform for disseminating information that directly impacts the daily lives of the people.
He, therefore, encouraged the Publishers to keep up the good work, stressing that their role in shaping public discourse and holding both the government and citizens accountable cannot be overstated.
The event also marked a moment of reflection on the leadership of the outgoing Chairman of ACNPN Delta state Council, Comrade Jude Obiemenyego.
The Governor commended Obiemenyego for his exemplary leadership and his contributions to the growth of the Association. “Comrade Obiemenyego has done an exceptional job in steering the affairs of the Association and we acknowledge his tireless work over the years, adding that he (the Governor) would continue to collaborate with the new leadership of ACNPN, ensuring that the Association remains a key partner in Delta State media landscape.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the outgoing Chairman of ACNPN Delta State Council, Comrade Jude Obiemenyego, expressed gratitude for the Governor’s support and reiterated the commitment of the Association to continue promoting the interest of the people through responsible journalism, ensuring that ACNPN remains a strong voice for the communities it serves.
In his remarks shortly after the new ACNPN executives were sworn in, the new ACNPN Chairman, Comrade Ike Philip Abiagom, commended the State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, for his presence at the event despite his very tight state matters, adding that the ACNPN inauguration by His Excellency the Governor, marks another milestone in the history of the Association in Delta State.
While calling on other Publishers who are yet to join the Association to do so, Comrade Abiagom reemphasized that ACNPN Delta State Council is one indivisible Association and remains open for more membership.
Those inaugurated by the Governor of Delta State includes State Chairman Comrade Ike Philip Abiagom, Vice Chairman Akuba Mercy, Secretary Alaska Ekele, Assistant Secretary Charity Mayor, Treasurer Segun Asare, and Financial Secretary Eboagu Cyprian.
Others are Auditor Solomon Ogala, Provost Mike Maha and Public Relations Officer Chukwuha Jude.
The highlight of the event were Lectures titled “The Incessant Killings in the Country: Building Synergy between the Government and the Grassroots for Effective Remedy” delivered by ACP Alex Udeze of the Asaba Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force and “Imperative of Cooperative Societies, Its Impact on Nigerians and Nigeria economic Growth” delivered by Pastor Daniel Idowu Okeze Internal Auditor Federal Co-operative College, Oji River Enugu State.
