- Urges Nigerians To Support Late Officers’ Widows, Families

DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, yesterday, urged Nigerians to demonstrate enduring commitment to the welfare of widows and families of the country’s fallen heroes.
The Governor made the plea while addressing journalists shortly after participating in the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony held at the Cenotaph in Asaba.
Governor Oborevwori who led state government functionaries, military and paramilitary personnel to lay wreaths in honour of the nation’s fallen heroes, stressed the significance of the event in commemorating the sacrifices of Nigeria’s Armed Forces.
“This day happens to be a day we celebrate every year in remembrance of our fallen heroes. My prayer is for God to grant the souls of our fallen heroes’ eternal rest and also to console their families”, the governor said.
He assured the families of deceased military personnel that their sacrifices to the nation would not be in vain.
“I want to re-assure their families that they will never be neglected. Whichever way we can support them, we will continue to support the widows and also those in the forefront today.
“It shows that Nigeria cares, our people care. I will encourage them to stand firm; to stand for our country, Nigeria,” Oborevwori added.
Highlight of the ceremony was the laying of wreaths by Governor Oborevwori; the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; the State Chief Judge, Justice Theresa Diai, who was represented by Justice Onome Umukoro; Secretary to State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu; the Commander of 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Nwachukwu and Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship Delta, Rear Admiral M.Y. Abba.
Others who laid wreaths at the ceremony were the Commander, 214 Forward Operation Base of Nigerian Airforce, Group Captain A.O. Adisa; the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Mr. Olufemi Abaniwonda; the First Vice Chairman, Delta State Traditional Rulers Council and Pere of Akugbene Mein Kingdom, Kalamama the 8th; Chairman, Nigeria Legion, Delta State, Rtd. Colonel Boniface Ojei; representatives of Christians Muslims religious groups and representative of widows of fallen heroes, Mrs. Sarah Nwabueze.
