Oborevwori Seeks Legislative Backing For College Of Health Technology, Ovrode

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has sought for a bill for a law to Establish College of Health Technology, Ovrode.

The Governor’s intent was contained in a letter he addressed to the State House of Assembly as read by the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor.

In the letter read during yesterday’s plenary, Governor Oborevwori hinted that the need to establish the College of Health Technology, Ovrode became necessary due to Nigeria’s high mortality rate of under five children caused by malaria, pneumonia, diarrhea and meningitis.

The Governor said to address the Under 5 Mortality Rate, the Federal government has shown commitment by improving human capital development aimed at reducing child mortality.

He explained that the institution when established, would be dedicated to the training of healthcare professionals to provide auxiliary services in the health sector and improve human capital index of the State.

The Majority Leader moved a motion to receive the letter for further consideration and was seconded by the Minority Leader, Honourable Edafe Emakpor.

First reading of the bill has been scheduled for Tuesday, November 12, this year.

Also at Plenary, the house adopted the recommendations of the House Committee on Public Accounts on the consolidated audit report of the accounts of the 25 Local government areas in Delta State for the year ended 31 December 2023. This was sequel to a report of the committee presented by its Chairman, Hon. James Augoye.

Presenting the report, Chairman of the committee, Hon. Augoye recommended that the Local government Councils should intensify and boost their internal revenue generation efforts so as to complement the revenue from statutory allocation.

The committee amongst other things also recommended that the Local Government Councils should adhere strictly to the provision of the guidelines on the approval of advances to staff on projects.

The house in a unanimous voice vote, adopted the recommendations of the committee, as the Speaker, Right Hon. Guwor, while commending the committee and members for a job well done, urged the clerk of the House, Mr. Otto Aghoghophia to communicate the resolution of the House to relevant stakeholders.
