Oborevwori Sworn In As Sports Commission Chairman

BY IFEANYI UWAGWU

DELTA State Governor, Rt . Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, yesterday, inaugurated Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori as Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, alongside members, Mr. Samuel Sodje, Mrs Henrietta Iheakonyen, and Mr. Oghale Ofremu.

The swearing-in marks the beginning of a tenure anticipated to revitalise sports in Delta State, with a focus on bringing top-tier football and other sporting activities closer to the people. For sports-loving Deltans, the new leadership carries the weight of immense expectations, particularly in reinvigorating the fortunes of the state’s darling football teams.

Warri Wolves, a team with a storied history, has remained mired in the second tier of Nigerian football for far too long. Deltans would hope that the new administration will work towards securing the club’s promotion to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), returning elite-level football to a state passionate about the sport.

Similarly, the state’s female football team, Delta Queens, will look to consolidate their position in the top division under the Commission’s guidance. Despite a strong legacy, the Queens faltered in their title defence last season, a situation fans believe can be rectified with enhanced support and strategic planning.

Deltans anticipate that the new leadership will not only focus on football but also create a comprehensive framework for sports development that nurtures local talent , promotes grassroots initiatives, and ensures the state remains a powerhouse in Nigerian sports.
