The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has called on members of the 2024 Batch C Stream II National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state to contribute meaningfully to the development and transformation of their host communities.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area, the Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Bar. ThankGod Trikariowei emphasized the importance of their service year.
Oborevwori stated that the training they had completed had provided a strong foundation, exposing them to a range of skills, knowledge, and experiences intended to prepare them effectively for their duties at their respective primary assignments.
Speaking further, the Governor said: ‘’It is heartwarming to note your commitment and sense of responsibility in responding to the demands of the programme. As you proceed to your primary assignments, I urge you to contribute meaningfully to the development and transformation of our rural communities.
‘’Embark on projects that address the immediate needs of the people and approach your service with zeal, commitment, patience love and empathy. Let your presence in these communities bring about positive change.
‘’On our part, we will continue to meet your welfare needs. We will also continue to
recognize and reward outstanding corps members who distinguish themselves during the
service year’’.
Highlighting the relevance of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, Oborevwori stressed that the training would provide corps members with a foundation for financial independence, even as he urged them to leverage the knowledge acquired for personal and national development.
In the same vein, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr John Kwaghe in his address, said the rigorous training and the interventionist programmes undergone by the Corps members over the past three weeks, had prepared them for the task of national service.
He urged them to not only remember the lessons they had learnt during the orientation but to also apply leadership skills, tackle challenges with maturity, and strive to make a positive impact in their host communities, as they were now considered ambassadors of the scheme.
‘’Say no to all forms of negative behaviour, including unauthorized journeys, which have unfortunately led to avoidable tragedies. Be law-abiding citizens and uphold the values of unity, peace, and progress’’ he said.
The State Coordinator expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori, the NYSC staff, and other collaborating stakeholders and agencies for their immense support in the success of the orientation course.
