The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu has reaffirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to ensuring even development across the state.
Mr Aniagwu, who said this during an interview with journalists in Asaba, said the state government is ensuring the realization of the MORE Agenda, adding that Governor Oborevwori is “walking the talk.”
The Commissioner emphasized that the MORE Agenda is the roadmap for the Oborevwori administration, aimed at spreading development to every corner of the state.
He praised the Governor for matching his words with action, saying, “Governor Oborevwori isn’t just talking; he’s putting in the work to drive progress.”
The Commissioner also highlighted the Governor’s extensive experience in government, having served as Speaker of the State House of Assembly. He explained that the current administration is building on the achievements of its predecessor.
“The last administration did well in road construction, but today, we have Julius Berger actively working in Delta State, improving accessibility in Warri, Uvwie, Udu, and surrounding areas,” he said. “So, it’s not about comparing administrations—Sheriff Oborevwori has street credibility.”
Addressing concerns about financial prudence, the Commissioner revealed that Governor Oborevwori had so far executed projects without borrowing. However, he noted that while the administration remains committed to financial discipline, taking a loan in future wouldn’t be out of place if it serves the state’s best interest.
“The Governor has applied great prudence in managing the state’s finances. Delta State remains solvent, projects are ongoing, and loans are being liquidated,” he assured.
On security, the Commissioner commended the governor for strengthening security measures across the state. He cited the recent donation of over 60 brand-new vehicles to security agencies as a testament to the administration’s dedication. He also mentioned that other strategic interventions, which cannot be publicly disclosed, are in place to maintain peace and security.
Aniagwu also commended the Director-General of the Delta State Bureau of Orientation, Dr. Fred Oghenesivbe for his efforts in sensitizing students to the dangers of drug abuse. He urged parents to take a more active role in their children’s upbringing, stressing their influence during the formative years.
Responding to the recent defection of Sen Ned Nwoko from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Commissioner dismissed the senator’s remarks against the Governor, describing them as baseless.
“Governor Oborevwori was massively voted for by Deltans. After winning 38 court cases, how can anyone call him a ‘governor by default’?” he queried.
He maintained that while the opposition is free to play politics, the Oborevwori administration will remain focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to Deltans.
