THERE was celebration in the ancient Udu community of Ovwian in Udu Local Government Area, as Ma Edafe Comfort Odiete was installed as the Okpako R ‘ Egweya (the oldest mother in marriage ).
The event took place at her husband’s compound in Ovwian, where the rites of installation was done by the oldest mother in marriage in the seven quarters in the community.
As part of the rites, an elderly man, Pa Dickson Kevu said a special traditional prayer before the installation took place just as her fellow Egweyas paid homage to Ma Odiete with assorted foodstuffs.
This was preceded by a reception at Ovwian Primary School that was graced by a galaxy notable personalities in Udu Local Government Area.
The eldest son of Ma Odiete, Paul Odiete, an engineer who spoke to our correspondent at the event, congratulated his mother on attaining the feat.
Paul Odiete, a former president-general of Ovwian remarked that “the installation is the Lord’s doing”.
