The Chairman of Ika North-East Local Government Area, Honourable Monday Odigwe, has applauded Honourable Henrrireta Ehiabor, the Delta North representative in the State Sports Commission, for her progressive initiatives aimed at fostering sports development within the region.
Hon Odigwe expressed his admiration during a courtesy visit by Hon Ehiabor, during which she outlined her strategic plans for grassroots sports development across the Delta North Senatorial District.
In her address, Hon Ehiabor explained that her drive to develop sports in the district stems from a vision to position Delta North as a hub for athletic excellence, not only in Delta State but across Nigeria.
She highlighted the importance of investing in young talent, noting that her grassroots-focused approach would ensure that students remain engaged in their educational activities while discovering and honing their sporting skills. This initiative, she added, would create opportunities for local coaches, many of whom have become redundant, giving them a renewed sense of purpose and relevance.
Hon Odigwe, in his remarks, described her vision as commendable and transformative, emphasising the multiple benefits of nurturing young sporting talent.
He pledged his administration’s support and readiness to collaborate with her when her programmes commence.
“The idea of harvesting young talents in sports is an excellent one that deserves full support,” he said. “Beyond the health benefits, it will tackle the persistent issue of age fraud in sports and solidify Delta State’s position as the undisputed leader in sports development in Nigeria. On this note, we are committed to supporting you in achieving this noble vision.”
Hon Ehiabor’s initiatives are expected to have far-reaching impacts on youth development, education, and the overall enhancement of sports in Delta North, further cementing Delta State’s reputation as a powerhouse in Nigerian athletics.
