The Director-General of the Delta State Orientation Bureau (DSOB), Dr. Fred Oghenesivbe, has called on the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA) to improve the supervision of its officers to ensure their activities reflect positively on the state’s image.
Dr. Oghenesivbe made this appeal during a courtesy visit by the management of DESTMA, who sought collaboration to address issues affecting road traffic and safety management, including public sensitization on traffic regulations.
He expressed concerns over reports of misconduct and unprofessional behavior by some DESTMA officers, warning that such incidents could damage the state’s reputation and undermine the government’s efforts to create an orderly and citizen-friendly environment.
“The role of DESTMA in ensuring smooth traffic flow and maintaining order on our roads is critical,” Dr. Oghenesivbe stated. “However, the agency must closely monitor its personnel to prevent actions that could erode public trust and confidence.”
While commending DESTMA for its contributions to traffic management in the state, he emphasized the need for continuous training programs focused on professionalism, discipline, and effective communication with road users.
Dr. Oghenesivbe reiterated that a state’s image is shaped not only by its infrastructure and development but also by how public institutions and their representatives interact with citizens.
He urged Deltans to support DESTMA by adhering to traffic rules while calling on the agency to uphold accountability and transparency in its operations.
He further encouraged DESTMA to strictly enforce traffic regulations and pledged his commitment to supporting the agency’s efforts in improving public awareness and compliance with traffic laws.
In response, the Director-General of DESTMA, Hon. Benjamin Okiemute, welcomed the collaboration with DSOB and assured Dr. Oghenesivbe that the agency would address his concerns. He reaffirmed DESTMA’s commitment to training its officers and working closely with relevant stakeholders to enhance traffic management in Delta State.
