The National Butchers Union of Nigeria (NBUN), Delta State, in a landmark decision, yesterday, unanimously elected Peter Onuoha as the Chairman of the association after a rigorous campaign and election exercise.
His emergence as the Chairman followed a six-month campaign and open ballot election conducted after a thorough review of each candidate’s position, as published by the electoral body. The election, which took place at Mechanic Village in Asaba, the state capital, with all contestants and their supporters present demonstrating the union’s commitment to unity and progress.
The newly elected excos are Peter Onuoha, Chairman; Chief John Okonedo, Vice Chairman; Godvoice Mabiaku, State Secretary; Emmanuel Onuorah, State Financial Secretary; Udoka Paul, Assistant State Secretary; Omosomofa Mamode; Public Relations Officer, (PRO1), and Ufuoma Asifor as State Publicity Secretary. Others are: the State Woman Leader, Mrs. Vote Egega and Assistant Woman Leader Felicia Obariki, while officials who returned as unopposed are: Second Vice Chairman, Livinus Nnaji; State Treasurer, Kenneth Uwafor; Ex- officials, Elohor Obariki; State Welfare, Darlington Nnajifor; Ogheneochuko Evuarherhe (Delta South), and Paul Okwudili (Delta North) Shortly after the election, the legal adviser for the association, Ekene Ani (Esq) administered the oath of allegiance marking a new chapter in the association.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Peter Onuoha charged all newly elected officials to put in their best in the discharge of the duties. “We are called to work and make progress, and that is what we are going to do”, he asserted. In the same vein, the past Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Comr. Samuel Idhomi and the outgone Chairman, David Akusu, in their separate speeches, advised the newly elected officials to run an all-inclusive, fair and transparent administration as they looked forward to a progressive body even as they thanked God for a swift election exercise.
