At least 115 undergraduates from different institutions of higher learning, yesterday, emerged winners of the Monday Onyeme Scholarship scheme for Ika Federal Constituency.
The undergraduates who will get a minimum of N200,000 each passed the aptitude test organised for those who applied for the scholarship for the Federal Constituency. The aptitude test took place at the Ogbenudein Model Secondary School Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area.
It would be recalled that in the last two weeks, 289 and 149 persons emerged at the aptitude test held for Ndokwa/Ukwuani and Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, making a total of 553 persons that passed the aptitude test for the Monday Onyeme Foundation 2024 Annual Scholarship Scheme for Delta North Senatorial District. Addressing the students before the examination, the Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, who supervised the aptitude test, said the scholarship scheme was to encourage and support undergraduates in their educational pursuits.
Sir Onyeme said the award was merit-based, and noted that the performance of participants with the highest score from the Ika Federal constituency was not encouraging enough compared to that of the Ndokwa/Ukwuani and Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency. He however urged the shortlisted candidates to be focused and put in their best in their studies. The deputy governor disclosed that those who came first would get N400,000, the second position would get N350,000 each and the third position would get an additional N300,000. He noted that the date for the presentation of cheques to the beneficiaries would be communicated to them in due course.
One of the candidates who scored the highest, Mr Praise Oluchukwu, a medical student at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) expressed gratitude to God and thanked Sir Monday Onyeme Foundation for putting a smile on his face.
EgbunaIfeoma Divine and Richard Emmanuella who tied in second position expressed their appreciation to the deputy governor and assured of better performance next time.
