Orogun Kingdom Installs New President-General, Honours Predecessor

The newly installed President-General of Orogun Kingdom, Chief. Etetakpo Opone has called for unity and collaboration as he steps into his new role, pledging to build on the legacy of his predecessor, Chief Barr. Benson Ndakara.

During the installation ceremony held recently in the Ughelli North Local Government of Delta state, Opone emphasized the need for collective efforts to move the kingdom forward, promising to prioritize the inclusion of women, youth, and vulnerable groups in his administration.

In his words, “I recognize that I cannot succeed in this role alone. I pledge to listen to all perspectives and consult widely before making decisions, and this will be reflected in the formation of my cabinet which will be strategically positioned for effective service delivery in the best interest of our people.”

He further appreciated the immediate past President General, Chief Barr. Benson Ndakara, for raising the standard of leadership in Orogun pledging to build upon the solid foundation he has laid.

The event paid glowing tribute to the immediate past President-General, Chief Ndakara, for his exemplary leadership from 2016 to 2024. Under his tenure, several developmental projects, including roads, school staff quarters, and community infrastructure, were completed, earning him widespread praise.

Chairman of the Reception Planning Committee, Adjerese Oghene-Meshach Anuku, highlighted Ndakara’s achievements, proposing the institution of an annual “Benson Ndakara Day” to celebrate leadership and community service.

 

The traditional Prime Minister of Orogun, Chief Do-Good Efe-Nogo, also honoured Ndakara by announcing the establishment of the “Ndakara Emerging Leaders Award.”

In response, the immediate past President General, Chief. Benson Ndakara, expressed gratitude, describing the occasion as humbling, and vowed to continue serving the community in his new advisory role on legal and general matters.

The celebration was attended by notable figures, including Senator OvieOmo-Agege and other dignitaries, including Chief Do-Good Efe-Nogo, Chief A Osawota, Chief Pius Ovbije, Chief Enakpodia, Dr.OtiveIgbuzor, Sir Felix Osawota, Adjerese O.M. Anuku, and Chief Ken Enwefah, who were recognized for their contributions to the kingdom.

The event also featured cultural performances, the unveiling of Ndakara’s portrait and presentation of awards to him.
