Otirhue Pledges Continuous Training Of LG Staff

Chairman of Delta State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Dcn. Joseph Otirhue has affirmed that the commission will continue to train and retrain staff of the Unified Local Government Service (ULGS), calling it a top priority.

He gave this affirmation during the seminar the Commission organised for 175 top management staff of the ULGS.

While declaring the seminar opened, Otirhue said the commission will not relent in training staff of the service as training is a tool for improving staff performance and a bedrock of more knowledge.

He said the commission has designed training workshops in a way to eliminate low turnouts, by bringing seminars closer to the various senatorial districts in the State.

While addressing participants, the Commission boss said the mission was to cultivate and maintain a workforce that is professionally groomed and ethically sound to drive and implement policies and programmes that benefit our communities.

Speaking further, Otirhue implored all staff to work together to promote a culture of fiscal responsibility and discipline in our local governments, ultimately leading to efficient and effective service delivery to our citizens.

He enjoined the participants to take the training seriously, taking home what has been learnt and putting them into practice. He said enough time was apportioned for the lectures so as to ensure indept analysis and robust interactive sessions so as to place the Local Government System on a more transparent and accountable trajectory adding that, learning has no limit.

He, therefore, encouraged participants to take advantage of this opportunities to upgrade their knowledge as they can be invited in the future to also impart others with the knowledge they have acquired in the course of their service years.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mr Patrick Achuenu commended the Commission for organizing the training workshop for the calibre of staff that were invited, he promised that the participants will put into practice what they have learnt and also impart the acquired knowledge on their subordinates and colleagues in their various stations.

Seasoned resource persons such as Dr. Philip Agbeyeke, Chief, Dr. Efe Okonoko and the Auditor-General, Local Government, Delta State, Mr. Ikenna Ukpaka amongst others took participants on topics such as,” The Crisis of Internal Revenue Generation in Local Government Administration and the Existing Albatross (Long Term Impediment), Exploring the Concepts of Efficiency and Effectiveness for Successful Local Government Administration and Role of HODs in the Promotion of Fiscal Discipline For Efficient and Effective Delivery in Local Government Administration “ amongst others.
