Owhelogbo Indigenes Applaud Government’s Healthcare Initiatives

BY JUMAI NWACHUKWU

Indigenes of Owhelogbo in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State have applauded the state government’s provision of quality healthcare services through the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC).

Many expressed appreciation to the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration during the flag-off of registration of 150 persons into the Indigent Enrollee Initiative Adoption Programme (IEIA), by the DSCHC to provide access to free and quality healthcare services.

It was sponsored by late Elder Joseph Erebe’s family. The sponsor represented by Dr. Joseph Oghoroje, in his remarks, stated that the purpose of the ceremony was to finalize the adoption of the beneficiaries into the DSCHC, to ensure their eligibility for the free healthcare services provided by the state government.

Erebe, emphasizing his responsibility to his people so they were not left behind, applauded the state government for implementing the programme for the benefit of the vulnerable. He noted that “it signifies a commitment to enhancing the quality of healthcare for those living in rural communities.”

The Director-General of DSCHC, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta described the sponsor as a philanthropist dedicated to promoting the welfare of others through generous donations and impact.

According to Akpoveta, health insurance for the vulnerable is not just about providing financial protection against medical expenses, but about ensuring that every individual, regardless of their socio-economic status, has the opportunity to live healthy and productive lives and also giving parents the peace of mind that their children can receive the care they need when they fall ill.

He mentioned that it was about enabling individuals to seek preventive care and to avoid the escalation of minor health issues into life-threatening conditions.

He urged stakeholders, especially those in the Diaspora to continue to support initiatives aimed at expanding healthcare access for all Deltans.

“This initiative comes with the generosity and compassion that defines our humanity. Let us not wait for others to act. Let us lead by example and demonstrate that philanthropy in health insurance for the vulnerable is indeed the ultimate. Your support will not only change lives; it will set a positive precedent for others to follow. It will inspire a movement where the fortunate extend a helping hand to those in need, creating a ripple effect of positive change throughout our communities. Together,we can ensure that no one is left behind.”

He added: “together we can build a healthier, more prosperous future for our state where every individual has the opportunity to thrive”.
