NIGERIA youths have been urged to engage in activities the will promote unity, peace and development instead of planning protest that will be hijack to destroy existing infrastructure which will have averse affect on masses.
The Chairman to Udu Local Government, Hon.(Chief) Vincent Oyibode made this appealed during a stakeholders meeting with the Executives of Union of Udu Communities (UUC) led by Chief Austin Emaduku, President-Generals of Udu Communities, youth leaders of various organizations, women leaders, executive members of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Tricycle and Okada Riders Association with security agents on the proposed protest on bad governance.
Hon. Oyibode revealed that Udu council area was worse hit during the cashless policy protest in which all commercial banks in the locality were burnt, forcing residents of Udu to travel to Effurun, Warri and it’s environs for banking activities.
He used the occasion to task the stakeholders to sensitize those close to them such as neighbors, tenants, children and community members that area was not in support of planned protest.
In his contributions, Chief Austin Emaduku, UUC President-General said the right to protest is guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria and said the planned protest was being organized by faceless individuals and dose not reflect the interest of people of Udu.
Chief Emaduku disclosed that protest and revolution always lead to anarchy and that the youths should not be dragged into protest that will have negative effect on the masses.
Hon. Dr. Henry Sakpra, Chairman of Delta State Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency, maintained that the planned protest was not in the interest of Udu people as such it should be shunned.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to Ovwian, CSP Bulus Musa advised Community Vigilante to remain vigilant and assured members of the public of the alertness of security personnel to curtain any break of law and order.
Highpoint of the gathering was a motion adopted by all present to shun the planned protest in the area.
