RENOWNED elder statesman and former Minister of Information, Professor Sam Oyovbaire, will chair The Pointer Newspaper’s 30th-anniversary celebration, scheduled for October 28, 2024.
The forthcoming event at the Grand Hotel in Asaba, themed “Honouring Truth and Unity Through Excellence in Public Communication,” will celebrate The Pointer’s remarkable 30-year journey in delivering credible and community-focused news across Delta State and beyond since its inception in 1994. The Delta State Governor, the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori will be on ground as special guest of honour, with the Commissioner for Information, Dr.Ifeanyi Osuoza is set to grace the occasion as the Guest of Honour, while Prof. Joyce Ogwezi of Dennis Osadebay University (DOU), Asaba, will serve as the guest speaker.
The celebration is expected to draw a broad audience, including media professionals, government officials, staff and management of the organisation, academics, and the general public.
A highlight of the event will be the awards segment, which will recognise personalities who have significantly contributed to The Pointer’s advancement of journalism in the state. The anniversary will not only be a moment to celebrate past achievements but also to chart a course for the future, as the publication continues to uphold its principles of truth, unity, and excellence in public communication.
