A team of the Delta State Police Special Squad detailed to Ughelli North by the Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi have arrested a former secretary of the Oteri community for engaging in alleged cult-related activities in an undisclosed hotel within Ughelli North Local Government Area.
It was learnt that the suspect was arrested by the police and a Barreta pistol was recovered from his apartment in the community upon searching.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright, “On June 14 2024 at about 1430hrs operatives on special assignment deployed to Ughelli led by ASP Julius Robinson trailed a notorious cultist and a mastermind of the intended cult clash to a hotel (name withheld) in Ughelli.
“The suspect, one Felix Egbe ‘m’ aged 37yrs of Oteri Community in Ughelli North LGA Delta State and a member of Eiye confraternity and also a former Youth Secretary of Oteri Community Ughelli North Delta State, was arrested.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect took operatives to his residence where a Barretta pistol was recovered. An investigation is ongoing.”
In a related development, a suspected kidnapper and armed robber has died from bullet injuries sustained in a gun battle with security agencies.
SP Edafe Bright held that in a case of terrorism related to incessant cases of armed robbery/kidnapping along the Adjekota-Ogor communities axis of Ughelli North of Delta State, at about 2347hrs of June 20 2024, ASP Julius Robison and team on CPS’s special assignment in a sting operation stormed a criminal hideout along Ughelli – Patani road by an abandoned filling station.
“The hoodlums, on sighting the Police, opened fire on the team which was given a superior response by the police. In the ensuing gun duel, one of the hoodlums sustained serious gunshot injuries while others escaped.
“The injured suspect was taken to the hospital where he died while receiving treatment. Two Baretta pistols and five rounds of live ammunition were recovered. Manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.”
