THE Anambra Police Command has arrested a suspect, whose name is withheld, in connection with child trafficking in the state.
The suspect is allegedly a member of a notorious group specializing in trafficking children aged 13 to 16 years to neighboring countries such as Ghana and Benin Republic.
Confirming the arrest, State Police Command spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga stated that the suspect is currently in police custody.
The arrest came in response to concerns raised by Commissioner of Police CP NnagheObonoItam regarding a spate of missing persons reports, particularly from Okpoko and Onitsha.
The Commissioner tasked police operatives with addressing the issue. According to Ikenga, the victim has been safely returned from Accra, Ghana, to Nigeria and has been debriefed.
“The suspect is also currently undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka. The investigation aims to rescue other potential victims and apprehend additional gang members,” he added
