The Delta State Police Command has arrested a two-man syndicate specialized in snatching vehicles and responsible for the killing of an Uber driver along the Warri-Sapele Road.
Parading the suspects at Ekpan Police Division, Uvwie Local Government Area on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, noted that the suspects were arrested by operatives at different locations within Warri, Effurun, Udu and its environs.
He assured that the Command had concluded plans to charge all cases to court immediately after the parade for the commencement of the trial and prosecution of all the suspects involved.
According to him; “On December 15, 2024, a lady (name withheld) reported at the Ekpan Police station that on the same date, at about 20:14 hours, while she was standing at the front of ShopRite, two boys approached her and negotiated the sum of N50,000 and took her to one club. After the club, they invited a cab man, and the cab man took them to a bar at Osubi.
“They instructed the cab man to go to Aziza junction in Warri Sapele road, upon getting there, to her surprise, one of the suspects brought a rope from his pocket and used it to strangle the driver while in motion and she was beaten and asked to bend her face”
“After killing the driver, they dragged the driver out and then abandoned the girl in the bush. On December 26, the same syndicate also attacked another cab driver in Benin, but the cabbie escaped abandoning the vehicle with them”.
“Consequently, on January 2, 2025, the syndicate brought the car stolen in Benin to a scrap yard in Warri to sell but were unlucky as the scrap dealers, who suspected them called the DPO Ekpan who came and arrested them”.
“The two suspects, Junior Emmanuel ‘m’ age 33yrs and Julius Samuel ‘m’ age 28yrs confessed that they were serial car snatchers and were the ones who murdered the cab man at Osubi on December 15 2024.
The two vehicles have been recovered from them”.
