Christians have been urged to continually pray for God’s intervention in the affairs of the country, the current economic challenges notwithstanding.
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori made the call in his remarks at the 50th anniversary of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria (CCRN), Warri Diocese, held at St. Williams Catholic Church, Orerokpe, on Saturday.
The governor, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Asaba, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo, said Nigerians should not give up on praying for their country, adding that the leaders needed prayers for the wisdom to govern, make the right choices and decisions that would move the country forward.
He noted that the past 50 years of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Church of Nigeria, Warri Diocese, had been characterized by evangelism, intercessory prayers and Christian stewardship, and prayed for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the movement, which had tremendously transformed the lives of countless people.
Governor Oborevwori expressed delight that the empowerment of some poor and vulnerable persons was part of the Golden Jubilee celebration, and commended the movement for the gesture, which, he noted, was a demonstration of the compassion of our Lord and Jesus Christ.
Governor Oborevwori added that the gesture was also in tandem with his administration’s policy of providing opportunities for all as contained in the third pillar of the MORE Agenda, under which over 200,000 persons had been empowered with cash grants and various business support packages to help them survive the harsh realities of the current economic challenges
The governor appealed to other churches, corporate organisations and well-to-do individuals to emulate the good example of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria, Warri Diocese, while urging those empowered to put the resources to judicious use
Also in his remarks, the Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Warri, Most Rev Anthony Ewherido, congratulated the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in the diocese on the celebration of 50 years of service, praise, growth and strength.
Bishop Ewherido charged the group to remain ever dynamic as a movement of the evangelical mission of the Catholic Church.
For his part, the Chaplain, Catholic Charismatic Renewal Church of Nigeria, Warri Diocese, Rev. Fr. Cyril Basikoro, thanked God for the success of the past 50 years and stressed the need to make the Church truly a movement to renew the Catholic Church and its various groups, associations and institutions in the years ahead.
