Proposed Anioma State Will Promote Freedom, Says Utomi Nwanne

BY PAUL EGEDE

A chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) and candidate of the party in the 2023 National Assembly elections in Ika Federal Constituency, Chief Utomi Nwanne, has given his nod to the creation of Anioma State.

The Ika-born politician noted that if created, the Anioma State would promote freedom, and efficiency, among other things that would be of immense benefit to the people of Anioma. Utomi, who reacted to the ongoing debates on whether the Anioma State should be created or not, stressed that the agitations and struggles for the actualisation of the Anioma State should be supported by every well-meaning Anioma son or daughter.

According to Utomi, “As a concerned and proud son of the Anioma nation, I’m making an open appeal to our people both home and abroad to support every effort aimed at actualizing the creation of the Anioma State. This appeal has become necessary because Anioma State will bring a lot to the table, respectively.” He noted, “Anioma State will fast-track development in our area, it will bring better job opportunities, better quality of work, easy management of financial and material resources, including the maximization of the energy/power sector.”

He pointed out that if Anioma State is created, there will be fewer regulations and less intervention in personal lives, thereby, allowing individuals greater autonomy and a corresponding decrease in taxes.

He added, “A new State like Anioma will reduce bureaucracy and streamline processes which can lead to quicker decision-making, and enhance economic growth as a small government can foster an environment conducive to entrepreneurship and innovation.” The Labour Party chieftain concluded by saying that the effectiveness of a smaller government as it relates to Nigeria depends on the context and the specific needs of the population it serves.
