The Public hearing on a bill for a law to enact and consolidate the law relating to the licencing, control and registration of pets and other related matters connected therewith in Delta State, yesterday suffered temporary setback following poor attendance by invited stakeholders
The public hearing, which was earlier scheduled for 2:00 pm yesterday (Monday) has now been rescheduled for Thursday, September 12, this year. This was announced by the Chairman, Delta State House of Assembly committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon Perkins Umukoro who expressed dissatisfaction over the poor attendance at the event by the earlier invited stakeholders.
It would be recalled that Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Umukoro in the statement, had earlier requested relevant stakeholders, particularly Ministries of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Health, Environment, Oil and Gas as well as Justice to advance memoranda to the House Committee on or before Friday, September 6, this year and appear for the hearing on Monday, September 9.
The statement further adds that Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) as well as the State Chapter of Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association should also, forward memoranda to the committee.
However, at the scheduled hearing on Monday at the press center of the State House of Assembly, a few of the stakeholders, particularly representatives from the State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources were spotted at the event.
Given the development, Chairman of the committee announced the committee’s resolve to reschedule the hearing for Thursday this week which is expected to hold at the same venue and same time (2:00pm).
