FORMER Chairman, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN, Ogun Chapter, Wale Adegbite, has asked the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, to sanction discos across the country for failing to fulfil their contractual obligations. Adegbite gave this advice while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria yesterday in Ota, Ogun State.
He spoke in reaction to the upward review of the electricity tariff by Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) for Band A, from N206.80/kWh to N209.50/kWh. The ex-MAN chairman said the increase was marginal but the issue was the availability of stable electricity for those on Band A.
“Many customers are not getting electricity for the number of hours the electricity distribution companies have contracted to provide. “So, NERC needs to penalize discos for not fulfilling their contractual obligations,” he said. Adegbite stressed that imposing stiffer punishment on these discos would ensure sanity and a more stable electricity supply for consumers.
Recall that the Acting Managing Director of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, Francis Agoha, stated on Wednesday that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission had approved a tariff increase from N206.80/kWh to N209.50/kwh for users in the category.
