DISPLACED traders in Ogbeogono market, have decried poor patronage and called for the quick construction of the drainage channel in the Ogbeogonogo axis.
This was disclosed to our reporters yesterday during their visits to the market, in Asaba, Delta State.
Speaking to The Pointer, one of the traders, Mrs Patience Ogelika, appealed to engineers to hasten up on their job so as to enable them return to their rightful position of business.
Ogelika said she was into the sales of perishable food items, the relocation to the roadside has affected her business as she was always faced with the challenge of moving her goods in wheelbarrow from one spot to the other, so as not to be damaged by moving vehicles.
Another trader, Mrs Judith John an egg seller recounted how she has on countless times loss some eggs, while trying to secure space for her business by the road side.
Mrs Judith called for quick response to their plea before the rain come, so as not to run into more loss during the season, adding that with the mud spread about the environment it could make the environment slippery and lead to fall into the deep drainage channel.
Expressing dissatisfaction, a tricycle rider along the Ogbeilo axis, Mr Felix Osuzoka said prior to the construction project, their challenge had been the high cost of petroleum, but with the ongoing construction they lack passengers as many who ply their routes, many times choose to go by foot.
He said they were left with no choice but to accept affordable price of transport fare from their passengers rather than lose the few they have.
He pleaded with the state and local government to talk to the engineers to expedite their work, as it was greatly affecting their transportation business.
